How the Christian Deepens Their Roots

Updated: Sep 14, 2023

The foundation of truth, for the Christian, is in the Word of God. In John 15, we read Jesus' words to his disciples, teaching them the paramount importance of staying connected to Him; they, as the branches, must stay attached to the Vine, who provides nourishment, in order for them to flourish and bear fruit.

It's our objective as we wait for the return of Christ, to bear fruit for His kingdom, to steward our gifts and opportunities for the glory of God and the good of others. We're reminded of the simple discipline needed to deepen our faith and belief, as we walk with the Lord.

In Deep Simplicity: Meditations on Abiding in Christ, Emily Darnell invites us to think about our practices of abiding, how we cling to Him, hope in Him and worship together before Him. These challenge our faith and help us grow.

The chapters look at one aspect of abiding, discovering what it means for God to be our refuge, how we are partakers with Him and how we're renewed in Him. Emily's writing is rich with scriptural truths, and each chapter ends with journaling and reflective practices to allow the reader to sink deeply into a time of abiding in the Word.

If you wonder what it means to abide and are looking for an in-depth study on it, or a guide to help you immerse yourself in the Word, I'd invite you to check this book out, it's one I would recommend!!
