Do I have enough battery-life on my computer??!!
Just one of the challenges to using technology in the African bush.
If it was a rainy day, our small solar battery may not be able to charge enough for me to use the computer, to charge our phones, or use the lights. We were thankful that coastal Tanzania is mostly sunny year-round and, generally, we didn’t have too many problems with our small solar system. It was a constant reminder to us of our reliance on electricity for the things we use.
During our time overseas, I would write monthly newsletters from Africa, to send to our friends and family back home. I would share stories about what our life was like, and how to pray for us and the community around us; it was an effort to keep people connected (although we could only send out mass emails when we were in the city).
Writing regular updates became a real joy, connecting people to our life in Africa. As our journey has found us back in Canada, there's been a growing desire to keep that connection with people.
So, I began posting here, once a week, sharing our journey with our youngest daughter through Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCIDS) - and the following bone marrow transplant; pieces of what God is teaching me; lessons from our life as church planters in Africa; and -because I have a love for reading- reviews of books that I have found helpful and encouraging.
I also publish a post called "My Mosaic" every Friday, where I share links to articles that have challenged me, about faith, our culture, to grow our worldview with a biblical mindset.
I write for a few reasons. I want to tell you about some of the craziness in our life, and how inside all the chaos and crisis, we saw God give us peace and wonderful moments of beauty. I want to share with you some of the things I'm learning, and by writing it out, it helps clarify my own thoughts. I want to encourage you in life, that as we put our roots down into His Word and abide in Him, He will bring growth and transformation into us, and lead us to the best possible life - one surrendered to an obedient life in Christ.
